San Diego Gaslamp Quarter
The Gaslamp Quarter is the center of a massive redevelopment kicked off in the mid-1980s with the opening of the Horton Plaza shopping complex; now, it’s a cluster of renovated historic buildings housing some of the city’s best restaurants and clubs.
After decades of intense development and restoration beginning in the 1980’s, San Diego’s Gaslamp has developed into a flashy upscale neighborhood with exciting sights and sounds that last into the night. San Diego’s city center is now a popular destination for travelers, meeting attendees and locals alike. The restaurant, boutique, shopping, condo, and entertainment hub of the city, includes Horton Plaza, the Gaslamp Quarter, the Embarcadero, the Convention Center, and historic Little Italy. Southeast of the Gaslamp Quarter is PETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres. There is also a renaissance going on in Little Italy, a charming and historic neighborhood down India Street between Cedar and Hawthorn at the northwestern edge of downtown. It’s a great place to find a variety of restaurants, boutiques and art galleries.
