The Gaslamp Quarter is the center of a massive redevelopment kicked off in the mid-1980s with the opening of the Horton Plaza shopping complex; now, it's a cluster of renovated historic buildings housing some of the city's best restaurants and clubs.

After decades of intense development and restoration beginning in the 1980’s, San Diego’s has developed into a flashy upscale neighborhood with exciting sights and as sounds that last into the night. Southeast of the Gaslamp Quarter isPETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres. There is also a renaissance going on in Little Italy, a charming and historic neighborhood down India Street between Cedar and Hawthorn at the northwestern edge of downtown.
